Today was a beautiful rest day spent with my cousins in Devon. My cyclist friends can tune out now…

I was picked up by car (a travesty?? I think not.) and our first stop was the Sandridge Barton winery near Stoke Gabriel in Devon.  This business has been growing grapes and making wine for 40 years.  The first winery in Britain was in the 50’s. Climate change has now allowed many grapes to flourish.  There are now about 800 wineries in Britain.

The restaurant, bar and tasting room,  patio, store and grounds are all inviting places to come for a visit. I particularly likes the murial in the restaurant.

The next event was “spendimg the day at the beach” at Torbay.  The North Atlantic was refreshing to get into and perfect temperature once you got submerged and used to it. The sun was hot and the tide was coming in - squashing the families and sand castle makers higher and higher up the sandy slope.

The evening was spent enjoying Brixton harbour views, a lovely fresh fish and scallops supper prepared by my cousin’s husband Brett who had been one of my cycling buddies all week.

This ends the family potion of the Corner to Corner for Haven House ride.  Tomorrow Ralph will meet me in Totnes and we will start the next leg of our adventure - heading to high our first corner - Land’s End!

Safe cycling
