Depart: Exeter University to the train at St David’s station to Paddington; on our bikes back to Ralph’s to swap bikes and sleep.
Exeter University gave us a spectacular view of the Somerset countryside from our breakfast table and off we went downhill (there was no possibility of further UP) to St David’s train station. Ralph and I said goodbye to Brett, Sam and James as they continued their ride towards Brixham. Ralph and I found our way to track 5 and waited for the London train. Emma, the station master directed me to spot #9 which will line up with car B where bike reservation spots 00 and 99 would be on the train. VERY helpful intel.
The train was smooth - on time by Canadian standards and clean and comfortable. Bikes are hung by their front tires. This Japanese built car was not designed for bulky mountain bikes but we made it work.
Paddington Station was full of the business of Saturday travellers and beautiful in its own industrial way.
We set our bike computers to guide us to Leyton Train station and although they didn’t share the same route, we made it to the train, got back to N London and peddled to Ralph’s home.
The rest of the day was spent cleaning the mountain bikes, transferring over the light and Garmin brackets and sorting, again, what we do and do not need.
Here we are ready to head off on the road bikes the next day.
Sally-Anne and Ralph’s neighbor Dave provided a pasta supper complete with creamy dessert! Thank you Dave and Sally-Ann.
Safe cycling
